There are some commercial flights directly to El Nido, but I think all of them are on Seair: http://flyseair.com/
They’re very expensive.. ~8000 PHP [$184 USD], but it might be worth it if your time is limited.
You basically have to fly into Puerto Princesa unless you want to pay a lot. A flight from Manila or Cebu is around 2000 PHP [$46 USD] via Cebu Pacific Airlines or Philippine Airlines. From Puerto, you can either take a bus or a van (air conditioned). Bus is around 300 PHP [$7 USD] and the air conditioned van is around 600 PHP [$14 USD]. Your luggage is also likely to sit inside the van with you, unlike on the bus where they might want to put it on top.
ALL transportation leaves from the San Jose Terminal in Puerto Princesa. All tricycle drivers know where this is. You can just hop on a bus or van when you get there, but if you want a van, I highly recommend you book one in advance. I did mine through El Nido Artcafe.
It takes about 9 hours to get to El Nido from Puerto. There is about a 2 hour stretch from Taytay to El Nido that is unpaved road and very bumpy.
We finally got seats on the very back of the bus. Not very comfortable, but better than standing. The people in the middle are seated on wooden planks that they wedge under the cushions of the neighboring seats.

We got on the bus to find that it was incredibly crowded, so much that there was nowhere for three of us to sit. We stood for an hour or so of the trip while we waited for people to be dropped off. This photo is of my travel friend, Benjamin, basically hanging out of the door of the bus - not exactly by choice.

In 6 hours I will travel 5 hours by van from El Nido, Palawan, Philippines to Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Philippines. Then I’ll get on a plane to Cebu, Philippines where I plan to stay for about a month.
I’ve been here for 20 days now. Palawan was a lot of fun and a much needed vacation. I’m ready to come back to civilization for a bit though.. I’m very glad that ‘civilization’ doesn’t have to be Manila though. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Cebu and met a bunch of people from there while I’ve been here in Palawan (surprisingly).

Weezer - Island In The Sun
———
I haven’t been posting photos because I don’t have a very decent internet connection here and I’m also having issues with Picasa on Linux, but I will try to again soon.
Anyway. This song is highly appropriate to my current status, which, for the past week or two, has been sitting out on the beach or going island hopping around Port Barton, Palawan, Philippines or El Nido, Palawan, Philippines.
It’s gorgeous here. In El Nido, the sea is filled with giant black mountains that rise out of the water like the tops of buildings from an ancient city. The water is so clear that you can see several meters down.
