I’ve received a few messages about this, so I thought I’d give an update:

I’ve been safe from typhoon Nesat so far. I am in Mabini, Batangas, Philippines right now. Although I am on Luzon, the typhoon mostly went north of here.

We had some very long power outages. They turn off the water too if the power goes out. Extremely heavy wind and rain here. I’m just a few steps from the ocean, but there has been no serious flooding here.

The people here generally don’t seem worried about the weather. They say there has only been one typhoon to cause damage in this part of the Philippines in 50 years or more.

There are a bunch of stories about it, but here’s one that my dad sent me with some good photos.

I’m here with yet more of my family. I am staying very near where my mom grew up: Imus. I think tomorrow we’re going to see her school, house and such - honestly I’m not really clear on the details of it all.
