Neil Young - Dead Man Theme
There is no music more suitable for driving through West Texas than the Dead Man soundtrack; I listened to the whole thing at least twice on my 10 hour drive to Las Cruces. Several have described it as “haunting” and I can think of no better way to describe it. This track, the opening and closing theme song, is mysteriously absent from the soundtrack in this form, but takes on several others. It’s basically Neil Young being awesome on guitar mixed every-other track with Neil Young + voice clips from the movie.
The movie is one of my favorites too.
I recommend you try both.

Good place to keep up to date on the fire events in Texas here: http://www.kutnews.org/post/tracking-central-texas-wildfires

This isn’t about my trip, but about the town I left, Austin, TX, USA. From Reuters:
“Austin-area wildfire burns a record 476 homes in Texas
…
“This fire is nowhere near being under control,” Bastrop County Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Fisher said.
…
The Texas Forest Service said heavy air tankers have been brought in from as far away as South Dakota, and all day they have been dumping tons of water on fires all day long.”
Bastrop is just east of my old house. There are fires in Pedernales too, to the west. Tons of stuff way up in north Austin too (where I lived before my house in the south). If I were there right now, I’d probably have my car pre-packed to evacuate just in case.
Hope you guys are doing ok.
