Neil Young - Dead Man Theme

There is no music more suitable for driving through West Texas than the Dead Man soundtrack; I listened to the whole thing at least twice on my 10 hour drive to Las Cruces. Several have described it as “haunting” and I can think of no better way to describe it. This track, the opening and closing theme song, is mysteriously absent from the soundtrack in this form, but takes on several others. It’s basically Neil Young being awesome on guitar mixed every-other track with Neil Young + voice clips from the movie.

The movie is one of my favorites too.
I recommend you try both.

Jenny Owen Youngs - Fuck Was I (Morgan Page Remix)

Love grows in me like a tumor
Parasite bent on devouring its host
I’m developing my sense of humor
Till I can laugh at my heart between your teeth
Till I can laugh at my face beneath your feet

Skillet on the stove
It’s such a temptation
Maybe I’ll be the lucky one that doesn’t get burnt
What the fuck was I thinking?

Love plows through me like a dozer
I’ve got more give than a bale of hay
And there’s always a big mess left over
With the “What did you do?”
And the “What did you say?”
“What did you do?” and the “What did you say?”

Skillet on the stove
It’s such a temptation
Maybe I’ll be the special one that doesn’t get burnt
What the fuck was I thinking?

What the fuck was I thinking?
What the fuck was I thinking?
What the fuck was I thinking?

Love tears me up like a demon
Opens the wounds, then fills them with lead
And I’m having some trouble just breathing
If we weren’t such good friends I think that I’d hate you
If we weren’t such good friends I’d wish you were dead

Skillet on the stove
It’s such a temptation
Maybe I’ll be the lucky one that doesn’t get burnt
What the fuck was I thinking?

What the fuck was I thinking?
What the fuck was I thinking?

Love is so embarrassing
I’m this awkward and uncomfortable thing
I’m running out of places to hide it
I’m running out of places to hide it
What the fuck was I thinking?

(You know that I’ve got what you want)
What the fuck was I thinking?

The Wailin’ Jennys - You are here

You wonder why you wonder when,
You wonder how now and then,
How you became who you’ve become
You are here, And yet you dream of being there,
Of being where you think the good life has begun

Every darkened hallway, Every fallen dream,
Every battle lost and Every shadow in between
Will bring you to your knees and Closer to the reason

And there’s no making cases
For getting out or trading places
And there’s no turning back
No you are here

Who can say who made the choice,
In the matter of your birth
Who brought about that fateful day,
Well you are here and born with fire and desire
You’re the only one can stand in your own way

And every broken arrow, Every hardened smile
Every foolish gamble and Every lonely mile
Will bring you to your knees and Closer to the reason

And there’s no making cases
For getting out or trading places
And there’s no turning back
No you are here

And every sign of love, Every seed that’s growing
Every sweet surrender To that silent knowing
Will bring you to your knees and Closer to the reason

And there’s no making cases
For getting out or trading places
And there’s no turning back
No you are here

The Wailin’ Jennys - Things That You Know

Feels like a lifetime you’ve been on this road
With so many miles behind you
You’d think you’d have left this world by now

======

The Jennys are basically the soundtrack to my life.

In exactly one week, I return to the USA.

Eddie Vedder - End of the Road

I won’t be the last
I won’t be the first
Find a way to where the sky meets the earth
It’s all right and all wrong
For me it begins at the end of the road
We come and go

======

I’ll be coming back to the States on December 15. I will spend the holidays with family and friends in Illinois. You may be surprised with my news. It basically comes down to: 1. I’m tired of vacationing 2. I have work to do in the US that I’m excited about

The journey isn’t over though. I’ll still be nomading around. After December, the next destination is planned to be someplace out west; I’ll let you know when I solidify my plans a bit more.

Weezer - Island In The Sun

———

I haven’t been posting photos because I don’t have a very decent internet connection here and I’m also having issues with Picasa on Linux, but I will try to again soon.

Anyway. This song is highly appropriate to my current status, which, for the past week or two, has been sitting out on the beach or going island hopping around Port Barton, Palawan, Philippines or El Nido, Palawan, Philippines.
It’s gorgeous here. In El Nido, the sea is filled with giant black mountains that rise out of the water like the tops of buildings from an ancient city. The water is so clear that you can see several meters down.

The Wailin’ Jennys - Heaven When We’re Home

Don’t know what time it is, I’ve been up for way too long
and I’m too tired to sleep
I call my mother on the phone, she wasn’t home,
and now I’m wondering the street
I’ve been a fool, I’ve been cruel to myself
I’ve been hanging onto nothing
when nothing could be worse than hanging on
And something tells me there must be
something better than all this

I’ve fallen many times in love and every time
it’s been with the wrong man
Still I’m out there living one day at a time
and doing the best I can
‘Cause we’ve all made mistakes
that seem to lead us astray
But every time they helped to get us where we are today
And that’s a good a place as any
and it’s probably where we’re best off anyway

It’s a long and rugged road
and we don’t now where it’s headed
But we know it’s going to get us where we’re going
And when we find what we’re looking for
we’ll drop these bags and search no more
‘Cause it’s gonna feel like heaven when we’re home
It’s gonna feel like heaven when we’re home

There’s no such thing as perfect,
and if there is we’ll fnd it when we’re good and dead
Trust me I’ve been looking
bu tonight I think I’ll go and take a bath instead
And then maybe I’ll walk a while
and feel the earth beneath me
They say if you stop looking
it doesn’t matter if you find it
And whose to say that even if I did
it’s what I’m really looking for

It’s a long and rugged road
and we don’t now where it’s headed
But we know it’s going to get us where we’re going
And when we find what we’re looking for
we’ll drop these bags and search no more
‘Cause it’s gonna feel like heaven when we’re home
It’s gonna feel like heaven when we’re home

Be Good Tanyas - Light Enough To Travel

Promise me we won’t go into the nightclub
I really think that it’s obscene
What kind of people go to meet people
Someplace they can’t be heard or seen

———

In conclusion to my mini rant about meeting people on the internet, I give you this wonderful song that is from one of my favorite groups and also has elements in it about travel =)

Keep it light enough to travel.

Reggie Watts - Fuck Shit Stack

I like to take some car polish, smear it all over they asses and buff that shit out so it looks like fresh peaches and shit. Why? Cuz I’m a ladies’ man. A ladies’ man. A lalalalalalalalaladies’ man.

———

I don’t have much of a reason for this being on my travel playlist other than it’s an awesome song and video. I guess maybe my choices in what I listen to lately reflect a change in mood. The escape is complete and now the road feels like where I’m supposed to be. My cousin, Mira, says my large backpack is my house and my small one is my garage.

The road is my home

Also,
